United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

Protecting the health of all Americans and providing them essential human services is one of the major thrusts of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This is even more so important to provide these to Americans who are unable to access these services otherwise.

The HHS has the mission of enhancing the health and well-being of all Americans through providing them effective health and at the same time, human services. At the same time, they foster sound and sustained advances and improvements in sciences that underlie medicine, public health and lastly, social services.

Within the HHS is the federal agency CMS, or the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which from its name administers Medicare and works with state governments in administrating the Medicaid program, as well as the State Children’s Health Insurance Program or SCHIP. This branch of the HHS is also in charge of administrating standards based on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, as well as the standards of long-term care facilities or nursing homes.

Rajik is a Director in the Office of Communications under the CMS, the focal point of the CMS for the internal and external communications of CMS, specifically in the areas of customer service, operations of the website, as well as traditional or new media like social media, media relations and public information campaigns.

The NTP’s main tole is to educate its partners and stakeholders on the following topics: Medicare and Medicaid programs, the Children’s Health Insurance Program and currently, the Health Insurance Marketplace.

The NTP is a very vital program that has been running for almost 20 years. Its mandate is to provide stakeholders and partners consistent and reliable information about the programs administered by the CMS. Their programs are also giving support to non-profit organizations and professionals, as well as those who do voluntary work with seniors and disabled people.

Various resources can be accessed by these stakeholders, including a training library, web-based training which focus on a key topic every month, and multimedia materials including videos, webinars and even webcasts available at times also in Spanish. There are also classroom modules available as well as train-the-trainer workshops. With the introduction of the Health Insurance Marketplace, they are now helping people as well on what options they have when it comes to their health care.
